Best Sewing Machine for the Money
Ah, money well spent! See, I finally bought a brand new sewing machine and I’ve been using it extensively for the past 3 months. So far, I’m loving it! It’s a computerized model and it certainly is the best sewing machine for the money since the whole set (inclusive of a couple dozen accessories) set me just $320. That’s a pretty decent deal considering that many computerized sewing machines out there are priced at $500 or more.
Here’s a picture of it.
Here’s a picture of it.
Before I selected this model, I actually browsed through a few lists of highly rated sewing machines online. After fussing for some time, I chose the 9960 Quantum Stylist because it has most of the features I wanted and the price was extremely attractive.
To top it off, an overwhelming number of reviews of this model are positive. You can use the link above to view those reviews. There are hundreds of them and I was sold after reading about 30 or so reviews.
This computerized sewing machine with automatic thread cutter is such a delight to use that I decided to post a very simple review of it. I’m going to tell you the things I like about it, as well as the things that suck. Yes, despite being the best sewing machine for the money, it does have a few flaws…
6 Things That I Like About It:
1) Easy to Use
I’m pretty new to computerized sewing machines. I did play around briefly with my cousin’s machine (different model) when I was staying at her place few years back, and at the time, I thought it was pretty complicated.
So with the 9960 Quantum Stylist, I was concerned that I might get overwhelmed with all the buttons, functions and features available on this machine. Fortunately, the machine is so user-friendly. Within an hour and a half or so, I was already having fun with it.
The instructional manual is 100% text based. It’s okay, but DVD containing instructional videos would’ve been much better. The machine’s interface is extremely intuitive and I love how the machine makes it so easy to thread as there are helpful guide marks to assist you.
There’s a ton of stitches to choose from (alphabets, basic, decorative and stretch stitches) and it’s a cinch to change them around. You can even tweak the width, length, etc and it’s very easy to do that.
2) Plenty of Feet!
Yup, loads of feet to mess around with and there are all neatly stored in the free arm compartment within the machine. The variety is just great. No wonder this is one of the most highly rated sewing machines. The following feet are included with the machine…
Basic General-Purpose Foot, 1/4-Inch Quilting Foot, Adjustable Bias Binder Foot, Buttonhole Foot, Button Sewing Foot, Blind Hem Foot, Braiding Foot & Guide, Cording Foot, Clearance Plate, Even Feed Foot, Darning & Embroidery Foot, Fancy Trim Foot, Open Toe Foot, Overcasting Foot, Presser Foot Shank, Narrow Hem Foot, Satin Stitch Foot, Single Welt Cording Foot, Stitch-in-the-Ditch Foot, and Zipper Foot.

Switching feet is absolutely pain-free. All I have to do is click the lever and the foot falls off, then I push the shaft down to install another one. You can refer the instructional manual to find out which foot to use with each stitch, plus the settings for it which you may alter. The feet are well labeled, and the machine even indicates which presser foot to utilize when you pick a specialty stitch.
3) Automatic Thread Cutter
Sewing machine with automatic thread cutter is a dream to use! Simply push the button on the left side of the machine (scissors icon) and the upper and bobbin threads will be automatically clipped.
4) Speed Control Feature
I love this feature very much as I do straight seams quite a lot. The speed control switch works by moving it either to the left position in order to slow down, or right to increase the speed which is perfect for sewing straight seams.
5) Extra Wide Table
At times, you might need additional sewing space so the solution is to use the extra wide table which is also included with the machine. Just connect it to the machine (you have to remove the regular table first) and you can even adjust the height of the extra wide table by rotating its rubber feet.
Also note that removing the regular table turns the machine into a free arm machine to help you get to those hard to reach areas.
6) Brilliant LED Lights
The machine is equipped with two LED lights and they do a great job at lighting the work space. Such brilliant lights help immensely while you’re working.
3 That I Don’t Like About It:
1) Instruction manual could be better. The manual can be hard to follow at times. Singer should have included a DVD with video tutorials. Many highly rated sewing machines these days come with a DVD manual. If I’m not mistaken, the computerized sewing machine with automatic thread cutter by Brother (model LB6800PRW) has videos included.
2) Monogram lettering could be bigger.
3) The bottom bobbin gets stuck every now and again. I noticed that it occurs only when I’m using some of the built-in decorative stitches.
These issues are no deal breaker though. Overall, the 9960 Quantum Stylist is still the best sewing machine for the money because it offers pretty substantial value at such a relatively low cost. To learn more about it in great detail, just follow the link you see down here.

A well-known sewing magazine carried out a survey some time ago to find out what people are looking for in a sewing machine. Approximately a thousand individuals participated in the survey, and the vast majority of participants declared that they are extremely interested in getting a sewing machine with automatic thread cutter.
This is a very much sought after feature, therefore it is no surprise that more and more reputable manufacturers are adding it to their line of machines. In fact, if you look at the last few years, one would be hard-pressed to find highly rated sewing machines that do not possess this feature.
It is indeed a very healthy development that manufacturers are listening as well as reacting swiftly to the demands of consumers. Go ahead and ask any of those participants of the survey, and they will likely inform you in a loud and clear manner that what they essentially want is the best sewing machine for the money.
Product quality and value go hand in hand, and manufacturers must never forget this powerful marketing philosophy. Many sewing machine manufacturers have come and go, and one of the main reasons that contributed to the downfall of those that closed shop is without a doubt, failure to conform to the aforementioned philosophy.
It’s not speculation, but a statement of pure fact that manufacturers who understand and utilize the potent combination of value and quality, are always capable of bringing forth the latest as well as the best sewing machine for the money to consumers all over the world. Highly respected research director Roger Mendoza Jr. can attest to this fact without argument.
For those who are not in the know, Roger Mendoza Jr. works as a senior research director in the Research & Development department of a well-known sewing machine company. He and his team have discovered a new breakthrough in sewing machine with automatic thread cutter technology.
Some tidbits of information have been released to the public so this discovery is naturally, generating a lot of buzz at the moment. Many industry observers, analysts, and even consumers are eager to learn much more about this breakthrough technology. But for the time being, Mr. Mendoza Jr. and his research team is keeping most of the information under close wraps.
It’s perfectly understandable for Mr. Mendoza Jr. to be mostly hush-hush on this matter. After all, the main objective of the company he’s working for is to release the number one best sewing machine for the money, thus all essential R&D data have to be kept secret until the time is right for release. Timing is absolutely critical; otherwise the competition might uncover sensitive data which may significantly jeopardize the success of a product.
